Larry Smith of Glen Ellyn Storage Wins UniGroup’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award
ST. LOUIS (March 24, 2022) – UniGroup President and CEO Jason Mills recently presented Larry Smith of Glen Ellyn Storage, Illinois, with the 2021 UniGroup Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization’s Learning Conference in St. Louis. The award recognizes individuals who have shown particular dedication to and leadership within UniGroup and the moving industry.
Smith has worked at Glen Ellyn Storage since the age of 16. He began his career as a mover and a salesperson before becoming general manager. As president of the company, Smith purchased additional agencies in Chicago and Plainfield. He also acquired Adco United in Barrington. Over the years, Glen Ellyn Storage has been praised for its quality service winning the Customer Excellence award many times and the top award for quality, the President’s Quality Award, as recent as 2020.
Beyond Glen Ellyn Storage, Smith played a critical leadership role when UniGroup acquired Mayflower Transit van line. He later served on UniGroup’s Board of Directors from 2005 to 2019 making significant impact on the Governance Committee. Smith also served as Treasurer for the Illinois Movers and Warehousemen’s Association.
