UniGroup to Participate in BBB Moving Scam Study

July 1, 2020 – UniGroup, the parent company for Mayflower and United Van Lines, was invited to participate in the recent Better Business Bureau (BBB) study called “Moving Scams Cause Financial and Emotional Nightmares, BBB Study Finds.”

The UniGroup team was eager to provide insight alongside other moving and storage subject matter experts on how to identify fraudulent companies. UniGroup has funded MoveRescue, the first, and only, moving industry-endorsed consumer assistance service aimed at helping consumer avoid getting involved with fraudulent companies, since 2003.

MoveRescue was identified in the study as a great tool for those who have had their goods held hostage by a fraudulent company. The new MoveRescue website is also a one-stop shop for consumer education on the moving process, how to identify fraudulent companies and avoid scams. If a consumer is victimized, they are able to provide copies of their moving contracts to MoveRescue so they can reach out to the moving company in an effort to negotiate with the movers and locate the goods. In addition, MoveRescue works to track moving scammers and reports situations to FMCSA, so action can be taken.

The article was released June 30, 2020, and focuses on high level information regarding fraudulent companies, with links to further in-depth investigative studies surrounding this widespread problem in the moving industry. The article also references several resources, including MoveRescue, for situations where an individual believes they are a victim of a moving scam.
